LET US PRAY

Jesus said that his Church is to be a house of prayer - and Village Church IS a praying church. If you have a prayer need, we would love to hear it! Let us know at pray@villagechurchva.com.

In January and August we take time to focus on prayer during our 21 Days of Prayer initiatives. Below is our 2018 Prayer Guide or click HERE for a printable version. Also below is helpful information on Fasting.

prayer guide

2 Chronicles 7:14 (ESV) “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

As we pray together during this season, let the Scripture above guide you to:

  • Humble Yourself: Leave pride and selfishness outside when coming into God’s presence
  • Pray His Will: Pray for the completion of the Great Commission and for revival in your generation
  • Seek God: Declare your dependence on God in every area of your life
  • Confess and Turn from Sin: Ask God to reveal sin in your life and live  forgiveness
  • Hear from Heaven: Invite God’s presence into your life and church
  • Believe God: Trust that God will answer according to your specific prayer needs

As you fast and pray each day, join your church family in praying for these specific focuses:

FASTING

As you pray during this season, we also encourage you to fast. Fasting is denying yourself of something physical and eliminating distractions in order to bring your soul more in tune with God. It hits the "reset button" of our soul and renews us from the inside out. Fasting also helps us to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God and prepares our hearts for all the good things God desires to bring into our lives.

Fasting also adds a greater level of effectiveness to your prayer life, which is why we do it as a church body during our 21 Days of Prayer. What and how you fast is not as important as the focus of your heart during it.

While your personal fast should present a level of challenge to you, it is very important to know your body, your options, and, how to break the fast in a healthy way when you are done. Most importantly, you should seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.

While you may fast any way you’d like, each of the three weeks of our 21 Days of Prayer will have a different focus:

  • Soul Fast: abstaining from a certain habit or behavior (such as social media, drinking, dipping, sleeping in, etc.)
  • Partial/Selective Fast: abstaining from a specific meal (such as lunch) or a certain food (such as sugar); Consider the Daniel Fast, Whole-30, etc.
  • Complete Fast: abstaining from all foods and only drinking liquids, typically water (light juices optional); Be careful to do this in a healthy way
